000 — Materials

Made to
feel natural.

Wood, finish, metal and felt — each one chosen for how it ages, not just how it looks on day one. Here's everything that goes into a Kansoki piece, and why.

Made to
Why it matters

Built to be lived with.

01 — Look & Feel

Warm, natural grain

Every plank carries its own character. No two pieces are ever alike.

02 — Life Span

Built to last decades

Chosen for durability first — materials that earn their place over years of use.

03 — Investment Value

Worth the price

Long-term quality you buy once, not the kind you replace.

Chapter 01 — Wood

Three hardwoods, chosen on purpose.

Finishes
EuropeEUROPEAN ASH
Pale, open straight grain
Hardwood
European Ash

Pale and bright with a long, open grain. Tough and resilient — it takes daily use and keeps its calm.

ToneLight, warm
EuropeEUROPEAN WALNUT
Deep chocolate, flowing grain
Hardwood
European Walnut

Deep and dark, with a flowing grain that shifts in the light. The richest of the three — quietly luxurious.

ToneDeep brown
SustainableHERITAGE MANGO
Honey tone, varied figure
Sustainably sourced
Heritage Mango

A honeyed wood with lively figure, milled from trees past fruiting. Warm, characterful and kind to the planet.

Chapter 02 — Finish

A surface you'll want to touch.

The finish does two jobs — it protects the wood, and it lets the grain speak. We use a different one for each wood, chosen to flatter it.

Ash & WalnutPremium plant-based oil

Belgian-made plant-based oil, worked into the grain. It enhances the figure, enriches the tone and leaves a smooth, low-sheen surface that reveals the wood's natural character.

MangoMatte German lacquer

Stained and sealed with a matte German lacquer, preserving the warm tone and natural texture while protecting the surface for everyday use.

Strength,
Chapter 03 — Metal

Strength, where it counts.

Two metals do the structural work — steel for sheer strength, aluminium for its strength-to-weight ratio. Both finished to last.

StructurePowder-coated steel

Chosen for its exceptional strength. Where a piece has to hold weight and stay flat for years, steel does the work.

LightweightSpace-grade aluminium

Picked for its strength-to-weight ratio — rigid enough to trust, light enough to move, used where mass would only get in the way.

The coatingDurable powder coat

A matte, scratch-resistant layer — even colour, no glare, and a surface that shrugs off the knocks of daily desk life.

Merino felt,
Chapter 04 — Fabric

Merino felt, where things rest.

The soft touch-points — where a laptop, phone or pen meets the wood — are lined in pure merino wool felt.

PropertyBreathable & odour-resistant

Merino felt is naturally breathable — it absorbs moisture without trapping odours, so the surface stays fresh through long days at the desk.

It is mostly about tone. Ash is pale and bright, walnut is deep and dark, and heritage mango sits warm in between. All three are durable hardwoods — pick the one that suits your desk.
Ash and walnut are finished with a plant-based oil. Wipe with a dry or barely-damp cloth, and re-oil once a year or so to keep the grain rich. No harsh cleaners.
Yes. Our mango is milled from trees that have finished their fruit-bearing life, so the wood is a by-product rather than a reason to fell a tree.
